The most requested location in Washington.
The marble columns give you a soft, dramatic frame. The steps offer clean sightlines with the reflecting pool and Washington Monument behind you. Early morning shoots catch the light before the tourist crowds arrive.
Construction on the south face was ongoing into 2026, access points vary. I scout the location ahead of each session to ensure everything progresses smoothly on your day..
Jefferson Memorial
Still Iconic and bold yet quieter than the lincoln.
The colonnade acts like a natural light diffuser, soft, even, flattering. The Tidal Basin side offers cherry blossom views in spring and open water shots year-round. Couples who want something equally iconic but not as busy usually end up here.
Washington Monument
an underestimated icon that adds to the wonder of the day.
The obelisk itself is difficult to photograph up close in a way that works. The real shots come from the Mall grounds, looking back toward the Capitol, or framing the monument against the sky from a lower angle. When the compositions line up, they are unmistakable.
An unsung favorite for sure.
US Capitol Building
Washington's most recognizable silhouette.
A truly iconic and versatile location. Almost no angle disappoints. The east plaza and the Capitol Reflecting Pool give you the full dome without the compression that comes from shooting close. The neoclassical facade catches early morning light cleanly on the east-facing side. The grounds are open and give us room to work the composition from multiple angles.
If you're taking the time for a session, this is one spot not to be missed.
